Meet Our Pastor

Dr. Tommy L. Brown, is a 1980 graduate of Ennis High School and received an Associate of Arts Degree in Business and Computer Science from Navarro College in Corsicana, Texas in 1982.  He studied for 4 years at Southern Bible Institute in Dallas, Texas, and received his Bachelor’s (April 1997), Master’s (April 1999), and Doctorate (Cum Laude, 2003) Degrees in Theology from Andersonville Baptist Theological Seminary.

 

Dr. Brown was named Minister of the Year in Dallas, Texas by the Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance (IMA) in 2016.  He was honored as a “Game Changer” in Dallas and listed in “Who’s Who of Black Dallas” in 2016.

 

Dr. Brown has previously served as General Secretary of the National Missionary Baptist Convention of America (NMBCA).  He is currently Pastor of New Mount Zion Baptist Church of Dallas, Texas, Inc., President of the Baptist Ministers Union of Dallas and Vicinity, Third Vice Moderator of the Greater Rising Star District Association, a member of the R. H. Boyd Publishing Corporation’s Board of Directors, and has been an instructor in the National Baptist Congress (Vision Conference) for over 20 years.  He is a member of the Dallas Chapter of the NAACP.

 

Dr. Brown is a Christian, a family man, and a devoted Pastor. He is the author of the book “Activate Your Faith” and is married to his high school sweetheart, Ruth Chanel Morris. They have three children: Veronica, Angela, and Joshua, and two grandchildren: Ariyah and Josiah.

Meet Our First Lady

Mrs. Ruth Chanel Brown, known as (Nell).
Nell is a member of the New Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Dallas, Texas where her pastor is Dr. Tommy L. Brown and she serves as a Sunday School Teacher. At New Mount Zion, she is involved with the Minister's Wives and Deaconess sings in the Women’s Chorus and works in the office of the New Mount Zion Day Care Center.

Nell graduated from Ennis High School in 1980. After finishing High School she continued her education by attending Navarro Jr. College where she graduated in 1982.  While there, she was named Who’s Who Among Junior College Students.

Nell later moved to Arlington, Texas, and attended the University of Texas at Arlington in 1999 where her major was Education.  She was employed in the Arlington School District for 19 years and worked with the Disadvantaged Children, Behavior Intervention Program, Special Education Department, and was the Campus Technology Manager at Lynn Hale Elementary. In 2011 she received the Employee of the Year Award on her campus. Nell received her Diploma in Biblical Studies from the Faith Bible Institute and is an Instructor for the National Baptist Sunday School and B.T.U. Congress where Dr. LaDonna Boyd is the CEO / President. Nell teaches the Minister’s Wives and Widows Class and for 10 years has taught a course entitled “Marriage God’s Style” along with her husband, Dr. Tommy L. Brown.

 

Nell has recently been elected as the 2nd Vice President of the National Missionary Baptist Convention of America Minister Wives and Widows Auxiliary. Nell is a 2015 graduate of Dallas Baptist University with a Bachelor of Arts and Science Degree in Christian Ministries. Nell received the Elite News Woman of Excellence Award in 2008 and in that same year, she also was honored by the National Missionary Baptist General Convention of Texas Women and Girls Conference as a Godly Woman on Display by Design.

Sis. Brown and Pastor Brown were featured in the January 2010 issue of Trendsetters Magazine in an article “Mixing Love and Business”. Nell is also active in the community. She is a volunteer worker for the North Texas Food Bank, and Tarrant Area Food Bank and has helped at battered women’s shelters, homeless shelters, and Viola’s House Dallas.

Nell loves people because Christ first loved her. Her saying is “I was made to become like Him”. Her desire is to spread the Word of God not just by talking about it but also by living it daily. Nell loves the Lord with all her heart, mind, and soul. On January 8th, 1983 she married her high school sweetheart, Dr. Tommy L. Brown. He is her Pastor, mentor, best friend, sounding board, and protector. He’s her all and all.

They have 3 children, Veronica, Angela, and Joshua, and 2 grandchildren, Ariyah and Josiah.
